Project idea

The project, Al-Wasila: Circle of Life Sanctuary, is inspired by the intricate interconnections within the natural world and aims to foster empathy for all living beings. Rooted in Old Cairo, it addresses critical issues such as the mistreatment of animals, the undervaluation of plants, and the pressing need for sustainable, inclusive spaces within our community. This sanctuary envisions a place where human and environmental needs converge, building awareness and harmony for a more compassionate future.

Project description

The scope of Al-Wasila includes an educational institute and wildlife sanctuary designed to bridge the relationship between people, animals, and nature. The project features green spaces, wildlife habitats, and botanical gardens, offering a sustainable environment that enriches both the community and the local ecosystem. Key areas include an interactive educational center, outdoor habitats, and gathering spaces designed to blend seamlessly with Old Cairo’s architectural heritage. Through this project, we aim to create a sanctuary that is both a cultural landmark and a hub for environmental learning and empathy.

Technical information

The project is guided by principles of sustainable architecture, including renewable materials, passive design strategies, and environmentally conscious construction methods. The building designs are informed by biomimicry principles—not in shape, but in function—studying natural habitats to create spaces that meet the needs of all species. Green infrastructure, energy-efficient lighting, and water-saving mechanisms are integrated throughout. The landscape design incorporates native plant species to support biodiversity and reduce water usage. This technically sound, sustainable approach aligns with global environmental goals and contributes positively to the urban landscape of Old Cairo.
