The public building is located in the town Vilafranca del Penedès, Spain.
Vilafranca is a center or the local wine industry, along with other local
industries, such as textiles, metallurgy, food processing and construction
materials. It is also an important commercial centre.
Design consists of a permanent structure that is as much part of the
big market as it becomes once in week. A visitor’s experience begins
from outside of the public building. The program was designed to
create a pleasant, functional spaces that would allow visitors to enjoy
the welcoming surroundings of the town. The design focuses on creating
a link between the building and its surrounding nature through the
design elements.
The volume of the building is formed by 3 main steps: first, aligning the façade line with the neighbor's and creating green zone instead; second, pushing forward the upper levels to create shade for the ground floor, and opening patio for the light to enter and ventilation purposes; then, opening skylights for the light to enter to the multipurpose area.
The choice of natural as well as local materials, such as wood for the most
of the furniture and shutter planks for the façade, steel for the tensors to
grow greenery on, and glass for the glazing, allows the design to become
part of the land it occupies.
