Building Future: An Innovative Design for Kashitu Secondary School

Project idea

The main idea was to use the local materials in building, which can be climate responsive design, with some building science techniques of stack and cross ventilation, arranging the building footprint as per the wind flow for ventilation. The building form is kept simple and are separate for each spaces. All the given spaces are planned in a site for more than 250 student, classroom has 36 seats but can accommodate up to 50 in future in given area, and by calculating the number, the spaces of boys and girls hostel are divided. For ECA, football ground, racing, basketball is planned, with more of the open spaces, the student can have more fun learning outdoor.

Project description

By understanding the given source, the objectives was to design secondary school to students graduated from primary school where they can continue their studies, as there are no secondary schools, but have more than 8 primary schools, teaches more than thousand of students.

The materials is based on the local materials available around the area:
i) Interlocking cement earth block (ICEB)
ii) Wooden Louvre Window and Door
iii) Wooden Truss with CGI Sheet roofing
