Project idea

Picture this: breathing new life into discarded materials with a sustainable twist! The core idea here is to snatch up those retired concrete pillars from South Tyrol's apple orchards and give them a dazzling second act. The project aims to create a "Community Pop-Up" in Meran's Bannhofspark, a place for social interaction and exchange, all while showcasing the power of circular economy and sustainable building practices. It's about transforming waste into wonder and fostering community spirit in an eco-conscious way!

Project description

The scope of this project is to design a temporary "Community Pop-Up" structure within the Bahnhofspark in Meran. This isn't just any pop-up; it's envisioned as a dynamic space that can host various activities, from book swaps and toy sharing for kids to potentially even small public gatherings or performances. The key is its temporary nature and the focus on sustainable materials – primarily those upcycled concrete pillars. The project aims to be a visible and understandable example of sustainability in action, enhancing the park's social value and aesthetic appeal.

Technical information

Now for the exciting technical backbone! The project hinges on the reuse of concrete pillars, likely ranging in size from 7x7cm to 13x14cm, which were previously used in apple plantations. The design will need to consider how these modular elements can be repurposed to create the pop-up structure. This involves figuring out the structural integrity, potential modifications, and how to assemble them in a way that's both aesthetically pleasing and functional for the intended uses. The project will also likely delve into the specifics of material choices for any additional components, focusing on sustainability and recyclability, given the temporary nature of the installation.
