The Anti-Discrimation Movement had been one of the most significant events of recent
times where the liberty was acheived through the valiant sacrifice of martyrs. The
movement concluded in the emancipation of the general populus and the death of many.
The design symbolises the sacrifice of these brave souls. The tendril-like forms signify the
hands of the martyrs and the severed ring embodies the broken shackles. At the centre
there is a glass structure that epitomizes the liberty that was handed to us.
The forms are bold and organic, leaving no room for misinterpretation. The segments that
signify shackles can be used as seating for the observers. Foot traffic stays controlled
through the harmony obtained between concept, forms and function. The monument can
be accessed from the south-western entry ramp. The translucent glass will give a glowing
effect during the day. At night, the floodlight underneath it will create a play of light and
shadows.
