The recreation park in the city of Tutayev, Russia, is actively developing and being improved, becoming an important attraction for residents and tourists alike. Our task was to create a family center that would seamlessly integrate into the already developed park concept and enhance it with new opportunities for leisure and social interaction. We chose a plot that had been left outside the main improvement strategy and brought it to life by organizing a walking terrace and placing the family center there. The main idea of the project is to create a multifunctional space where every family member can find an activity they enjoy, and the architectural appearance of the building becomes a striking accent, harmonizing with the natural surroundings and the historical context of the city.
The building's volume consists of rectangular sections in plan and a central circular area, with an illuminated artificial white tree at its core, symbolizing family traditions and unity. Three red-brick towers stand out from the overall structure, providing access to the accessible roof — an open recreational area offering scenic views of the park. The silhouette of the roof and the building's parapet is shaped by the slope line leading to the core of the structure, adding a sense of dynamism to the architecture. The entire volume of the building from a distance evokes the aesthetics of medieval castles, creating a sense of recognizability and visual appeal.
The interior space is designed to ensure comfort and a wide range of functions: a coworking zone, a children's playroom, a performance hall, and a café — spaces where both adults and children can spend time productively and with pleasure. In addition, there are service rooms: staff offices, technical rooms, restrooms, storage spaces, and a children’s room. This variety of functions makes the center truly versatile and highly valued by the city's residents.
Considering the site’s significant elevation changes, it was decided to construct a reinforced concrete pile foundation, ensuring the building's stability and durability. The main building material is reinforced concrete, combined with white-painted finishes and red brick cladding, emphasizing the contrast between modern and traditional architectural solutions. The walking terrace is made of a wooden frame and board decking, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere in line with the concept of family recreation.
