KALUKLOD: A Proposed Histo-Cultural Waterfront Destination

Project idea

KALUKLOD is inspired by the combination of the words KALUTANG & BUKLOD means together or “kasama” / “kababayan” (countrymen) in Filipino. The project will serve as a catalyst for Marinduque uplifting tourism industry framing the identity and culture through experiential and placemaking design approach.

Kalutang is an indigenous instrument to the province. The word “Kalutang” is taken from the combination of the term “ka”means “together” or “kasama” / “kababayan” (countrymen) in Filipino. While the root word “luta” which means in Visaya as “apart”. The compound of the word “Kalutang” describes the word itself: two pieces of stick which were simultaneously struck against each other to produce a sound.

Project description

KALUKLOD will serve as an instrument to strengthen the tourism and help sustain the socio-cultural aspect of Marinduque City. The proposed development will enable Boac to have the opportunity to achieve a higher socioeconomic status. Hence, the establishment of the museum and cultural park will provide more potential in domestic and foreign tourist, will be classified as a city landmark, attraction for Marinduque.

Technical information

The goal is to create a design for Boac, Marinduque, that will strengthen the tourism in the area and enhance the growth and development of the end-users and the people about the province’s culture and tradition. Through experiential design and placemaking, the designer creates development and makes use of the surrounding environment through sensory perception.
