Project idea

The project represents an ambitious institutional design for an extended campus of REVA University in Bangalore, with the primary objective of establishing a comprehensive educational facility that spans from kindergarten to 12th grade. This initiative seeks to create a seamless and integrated educational journey for students, beginning with early childhood education and culminating in pre-college preparation. The school aims to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment that supports the academic, social, and emotional development of students at every stage of their educational experience. By incorporating modern educational methodologies and state-of-the-art facilities, the project ensures that students receive a well-rounded education, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary for future academic pursuits and personal growth.

Project description

The school design is organized into three major blocks: Kindergarten, Primary, and Secondary/High School, each reflecting a distinct phase of education. Inspired by the ancient Gurukul system of education in India, where nature played a pivotal role in student development, the design incorporates a centrally located tree symbolizing central knowledge. This symbolic tree serves as a focal point, embodying the core values of learning and growth within the campus.

The massing of the school is arranged in a hierarchical manner, ensuring that each academic block overlooks the central courtyard. This layout not only promotes a sense of unity and connection but also enhances natural light and ventilation throughout the educational spaces. In addition to the academic blocks, the campus includes dedicated facilities such as a sports block for physical education and extracurricular activities, as well as a spacious playground designed to foster outdoor play and recreation. Together, these elements create a holistic educational environment that integrates academic excellence with cultural heritage and physical well-being.

Technical information

The construction of the school is centered around locally available limestone bricks, which are integral to the main university campus. This choice symbolizes the unity and cohesion of the entire educational complex. The use of limestone bricks not only ties the school aesthetically to its surroundings but also reflects a commitment to sustainable and regionally sourced materials, emphasizing environmental responsibility.

In architectural detailing, the display of curvature is prominently featured to weave the school seamlessly into the fabric of REVA University. Arches, a modified representation of traditional architectural forms, serve as distinctive elements that blend historical influences with modern design principles. This architectural motif not only enhances the visual appeal of the school but also reinforces a sense of continuity and heritage within the university campus. Overall, the use of locally sourced materials and thoughtful architectural elements underscores the school's connection to REVA University's ethos while creating a conducive environment for learning and growth.
