Project idea

The Saha Skywalk Initiative is a transformative urban development project located on the outskirts of Bangalore near the airport. It aims to create a symbol of togetherness and unity through lush greenery, communal spaces, and innovative urban infrastructure. This project revitalizes metro line spaces, converting them into green, eco-friendly skywalks that separate pedestrians from vehicular traffic, enhancing safety and the urban experience.

Project description

The shape of the skywalk draws inspiration from "The Vine," adopting a fluid and dynamic parametric design that seamlessly integrates with its surroundings. The project primarily features a 150-meter skywalk that connects directly to the metro station, providing a convenient and safe passage for commuters. Additionally, the design incorporates a leisure park, thoughtfully planned to serve as communal spaces for social interaction and relaxation.
These communal spaces are rich in amenities and include a state-of-the-art parametric pavilion, which serves as a focal point for exhibitions and gatherings. Leisure seating areas are strategically placed throughout the park, offering comfortable spots for rest and socializing. For families and children, a dedicated kids' play pit provides a safe and engaging environment for play.
Pod seating areas are designed for small group interactions and quiet contemplation, while a mini amphitheater offers a venue for community events and performances. The pathways meander through the park, guiding visitors through various zones of activity and tranquility. Additionally, a jungle gym is available to encourage physical activity and adventure for children.
A key feature of the design is the inclusion of a ramp that connects the skywalk, ensuring accessibility for all users and promoting barrier-free architecture. This thoughtful integration of diverse elements within the leisure park enhances the overall user experience, making it a vibrant and inclusive space for the community to enjoy.

Technical information

The construction materials involve the use of locally available timber structures, which symbolize the unique imageability of the city. This approach highlights the city's commitment to sustainability and local craftsmanship. The design features intricate timber joinery, skillfully crafted to form the parametric pavilion and the shell covering of the skywalk columns. These elements not only add structural integrity but also enhance the aesthetic appeal of the skywalk. In addition to the timber structures, lush green elements are incorporated throughout the design to further enhance the space, providing a harmonious blend of natural and built environments. These green elements include vertical gardens, hanging planters, and landscaped areas that create a serene and inviting atmosphere for pedestrians. The combination of natural materials and greenery reflects the project's dedication to creating an eco-friendly and visually appealing urban space.
