Project idea

The idea for this project is to have a Cultural center for the Cherokee on a mountain in North Carolina and to be able to provide a research center for scientists. The cultural center would provide on hand classes, exhibits, and sight-seeing. The research lab would provide a spacious center, closed off from the public, for scientists after the returning from the excavation site which can be access from the double doors on the left.

Project description

This project consists of several gathering spaces for learning and entertainment. Starting on the main floor with the Entrance into the lobby and information desk. To the right are several offices for the employees, following the lower level is a cafe along with a gift shop, heading into the second lower level consist of an auditorium, exhibits, bathrooms, and private dorms for scientists, which is closed off to the public. Lower level three consists of more private dormitories and finally the lowest level is the research lab along with exits and a path to an off-site excavation site.

Technical information

The construction materials for the building are concrete, glass, and birch wood. The design of the building consists of three ribbons. The white ribbon interprets concrete, clear is glass, and the beige ribbon represents wood.
