Project idea

Sreemangal has the highest rainfall among 64 districts in Bangladesh. It heavily rains on rainy seasons and moderately rains on other seasons too. It has annual precipitation rate of 2223mm.Located in sylhet,Sreemangal is riched with so many ‘Chhora’ which comes with different shapes and sizes. There are Malnichhora, Lawachhora, Horinchhora etc which are well maintained by the local authorities. In this site, there is a nearly dead chhora passing by and surrounding the site there are developing commercial retail zones. In one km ratio there are natural green spaces all over ,so the site is quite naturally enriched. The total area of the project is 4.85 Acre.

Project description

Located in midst of a suburban area, the current building doesn’t capacitate the amount of mass people come by on daily basis. So, the authority is on the verge of building a station that allows more visitors. The Chhora was on the verge of death for lack of maintenance, but the design revives the natural flow and simultaneously serve the purpose of a station. The Railway Station has been remodeled with interventions in design spaces accentuating the Chhora.
The Chhora, the raindrops falling over it, the rhythmic sound, the earthy smell after it; the railway station will ensure all the ambiances are intact. Connecting the visitors with native surroundings is the prime motive. The design is focused on stimulating the associated people's visual, auditory, and olfactory senses.

Technical information

Almost 40% of the spaces of the site are left untouched to sustain the natural fabric and future extension. Carbon footprint reduction was another major concern behind the left-out space.
Sustainable Development Goals have been thoroughly studied at the early stage of this project. The main design decision has been focused on achieving them. The goals are:
Goal 6: Clean water and sanitation
Goal 7: Affordable and clean energy
Goal 9: Infrastructure innovation
Goal 11: Sustainable city growth and community
Goal 13: Climate action
Goal 14: Life below water
Goal 15: Life on land
Considerations:
-Rainwater harvesting
-Renewable source of energy
-Building orientation
- Natural Ventillation
-Daylight
-shading devices for summer sun
-Materials usage: local, Low maintenance, Durable
-Green spaces
