Project idea

The design of the Helix Nexus Convention & Exhibition Center reveals the connection between psychedelic art, parametric architecture and the M.I.C.E building concept. Psychedelic art emerged in the late 1960s, presenting psychedelic experiences and hallucinations through soul-stirring visual works. In line with this, parametric architecture uses parameters and variables to create responsive designs, resulting in dynamic and adaptive spaces.

M.I.C.E. buildings that combine the functions of meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions, not only increase local economic benefits but also require strong social support from the local community by providing attractive facilities and public spaces. This research method uses an exploratory and semiotic approach, with psychedelic art as a precedent in design.

The organically curved exterior design, bright open interior, and the presence of open transition spaces integrated with green open spaces, demonstrate harmonious integration with the natural environment. The interrelationship between art, architecture and business needs in the context of M.I.C.E. buildings. creating a holistic understanding of the complexity and diversity in how to design, experience and interact with the surrounding environment.

Project description

Psychedelic graphics are applied to architectural block plan sketches to create visual connectivity between building masses, characterized by nodes through interconnected curves taking into account the contour of the location and potential views. M.I.C.E building design concept produced with abstract psychedelic shapes that provide visual and spatial stimuli. Helix Nexus has facilities including: A. Meeting & Convention Hall with Cafe & Pastry Lounge, B. Auditorium, C. Exhibition Hall, D. Library with Gallery and FnB, E. Co-Working Space & Cafe.

Apart from building facilities, Helix Nexus also accommodates outdoor activities with an Amphitheater and Riverfront Deck, so that visitors can enjoy the view. The three large buildings are connected by a Sky Bridge to facilitate access and provide refreshment between activities with views leading to the recreation area.

Technical information

A psychedelic architectural concept is used with a distinctive futuristic design with a curved exterior and bright, open interior. The structure's seamless integration with its natural environment speaks to the psychedelic movement's interest in the organic, a feature that would become a defining characteristic of the style.

Helix Nexus uses a space frame roof truss structure on exhibition buildings and space truss on convention and auditorium buildings with enamel panel roof coverings. The void in the vertical transportation area is roofed with Skylights so that the building gets natural lighting.
