Project idea

The New Exodus settlement is an homage to Rem Koolhaas's Exodus. Rem's project involved dividing London with a wall similar to the Berlin Wall. The drawings Remus created for this project were a bold example of modernist utopias.

Unlike Koolhaas's project, New Exodus promotes the principles of modular architecture. Modular architecture is based on the flexibility and adaptability of the city in response to changing needs over time. A settlement that follows the principles of modular architecture develops organically and gradually diversifies its functions. This allows the township to adapt effectively to the different needs of residents and changing conditions.

Instead of a static and unchanging structure, modular architecture offers a flexible and scalable system where different modules can be added or changed over time. This allows for a more adaptive and efficient space that meets the diverse needs of residents and the community at large.

Thus, the New Exodus settlement is a kind of laboratory of modular architecture, demonstrating the principles of flexibility, adaptability and organic development in the construction and planning of urban space.

Project description

The New Exodus settlement is a forward-thinking homage to Rem Koolhaas’s visionary project “Exodus, or the Voluntary Prisoners of Architecture.” While Koolhaas’s original work depicted a divided London reminiscent of the Berlin Wall, New Exodus transcends this notion by embracing the principles of modular architecture. This modern approach emphasizes the flexibility and adaptability of urban spaces, allowing the city to evolve in response to the changing needs of its inhabitants.

In contrast to the static and rigid structures of traditional urban planning, New Exodus thrives on a dynamic and scalable system. Here, various modules can be added, removed, or reconfigured over time, creating an organic and ever-evolving environment. This modularity ensures that the settlement can effectively address the diverse needs of its residents and adapt to shifting conditions.

New Exodus stands as a living laboratory of modular architecture, showcasing the potential for urban spaces to grow and diversify their functions organically. It is a testament to the power of flexibility, adaptability, and sustainable development in modern city planning.
