Project idea

The intended scope of the facility was made respecting the character of the area and the existing constructions within the southern part.
The concept envisages a structure that extends over a large part of the plot and with the play on floors resembles the terrain morphology in this area. Within this structure will be accommodated community spaces, living spaces and other accompanying spaces.
The architectural style takes references from Mies Van der Rohe's modern architecture and the principles that guided his projects.
Considering the rich history of this area, an attempt has been made to re-interpret a part of this history through several different elements. As a sign of gratitude for Oscar Schindler and his humanity shown to the Jewish people, the latter gave him a gold ring with the inscription "Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire" written inside. ).
This story told in the film Schindler's List is re-enacted with the rings placed in the yard that are also a guide to the factory complex that will be transformed into a museum.

Project description

Within this project-proposal, several functions and contents are intended to be integrated, but with a special focus on housing and community spaces. The ground level is dedicated to community and common spaces for residents. Within these spaces, different activities can take place and the necessary services can be provided. In the plot where the proposed facility is located, there are also some old structures that are thought to be preserved and restored, which will also be transformed and put at the service of the community and residents. On the next floors are the housing units which are modular and flexible units. These units can be organized depending on the needs of the residents. The residential units are connected to each other with external galleries which also serve as a space for communication and socialization between the residents. The roof is also a usable roof and various activities can be carried out on it, the cultivation of various plants, cafes and the like can be done.
A key part of our project proposal is inclusiveness and through community gardens this is achieved as compatibility with the needs of all age groups, including safe areas for children and suitable spaces for the elderly and adults.

Technical information

Since the use of processed wood is preferred because it is a very sustainable material in terms of the environment, this project-proposal also foresees the use of wood in some parts of the building. At the level of the basement and the ground floor, the construction is supposed to be of reinforced concrete, while the other levels are to be of wood construction. The constructive system is of the skeletal type, combined with the massive one in some cases in order to stun the object. The constructive module used in this project is modular and repeatable in the future, offering the possibility of increasing the object based on its nature.
