Project idea

The master's thesis deals with researching the possibility of applying the concept of industry 6.0 (Sixth industrial revolution) in architecture with the aim of restoring abandoned spaces within the city core, thereby creating a new space for further healthy development of the city.
Abandoned spaces such as the Sugar Factory, Thermal Power Plant "Snaga i Svetlost" and others in Belgrade, from the former production function, become training grounds for the implementation of innovative Industry 6.0 solutions, which, with their automation and mutual neural network, facilitate the production processes of hybrid solutions for purification and power generation.
The goal is to create a quality environment for the development of new technologies that would initiate a new era of industrialization. By combining the experience of previous industrial revolutions and the awareness of their consequences, the idea of industry 6.0 - water purification and maintenance systems, clean air and innovative ways of fuel production as the future of technology is born.
In order for innovation to exist in the industrial-technological sphere, there must be a space that allows scientists and engineers to work regularly, a space where ideas are born, developed and produced. The conversion of the former sugar factory in Čukarica into a Scientific and Industrial Park creates space for the aforementioned development and education.
By researching the impact of industrialization, the history of industry in Belgrade and the work of the Sugar Factory, the basis for further work is acquired. Assuming that the project is in a future context, the technologies mentioned in the paper are emerging today and assume that they are already developed and in the process of being used.
As a product of a complete multi-level research, support for translation into a project is reached, the functions within the complex are connected to the context and physical structure, that is, to the city's system of intelligent vehicles that easily carry out transportation. Also, the main part of the park is the production of technology and algae that later form bioreactor systems that are further used to purify polluted nature.

Project description

The concept of Industry 6.0 is a hybridity between the technology of people and nature. The main idea is to purify the environment in which we live without sacrificing the benefits of industry and production. Automation of production enables people to engage in creative work and innovation in various spheres. Technologies have been developed such as: neural connections between robots that enable them to function as a single organism; bioreactors that purify water with algae and plants; photobioreactors - they purify the air through the process of photosynthesis; a system for performing artificial photosynthesis that has hydrogen fuel as a product, which is later used for cleaner electricity production. In relation to the context in which the sugar factory is located, it has been assigned the function of a water purification station.
According to the functions, the complex is divided into 3 units: 1 Movement to and around the location; 2 Public spaces for which everyday visitors come and stay; 3 Production of technology and their use/distribution.
1 Communication has an important role IMPORT of people / EXPORT of technology produced. For visitors, there are capsules that are interconnected by neural connections and this enables them to function as one organism. The export of bioreactors for water purification takes place under the capsule routes, they go to substations where they will increase the degree of sustainability of those facilities.
2 Public spaces use clean water that is purified from the surrounding water bodies, pools for sports/recreational activities and a lake with a beach that creates a more natural environment.
3 The industrial part is divided into production, research and laboratories. Production includes the automated assembly of technology for bioreactors and the cultivation of algae that are later used in bioreactors. Pools for researching the effect of purified water on plants and animals, also monitoring how the water affects people, and whether they want to bathe in it. The laboratories are areas for the development of industry 6.0 for water purification, and there is also a space for temporary accommodation of scientists and students working in the Scientific-Industrial Park of the sugar factory.

Technical information

The sustainability of the complex is characterized by a structural construction that only touches the ground, leaving it to the natural development of the ecosystem. Renewable energy sources are used for the production of electricity, as well as the minimization of emissions during production.
