Project idea

The concept of REFLECT (art therapy center) is centered around creating a therapeutic and inspiring environment using organic forms. The main area features a rough, layered, textured design, which transitions into smoother and softer, flowing organic shapes in the therapeutic zones, creating a natural, cave-like ambiance that is both comforting and inspiring. This dynamic and contemporary appearance enhances the visual interest of the space. The integration of natural, raw, and earthy materials like concrete, stone, and wood evokes a grounding, serene atmosphere. Natural light and shadows play a significant role, complemented by subtle artificial lighting to maintain a calm ambiance. The inclusion of indoor plants and greenery throughout the space adds to the biophilic design, promoting a sense of calm and well-being. Overall, the design promotes personal growth, healing, and artistic expression by harmoniously blending nature, art, and functionality.

Technical information

-The building is made from reinforced concrete for its primary load-bearing structure, including columns, beams, and floors. This material is visible in both the smooth and rough finishes throughout the building, while it has the glass elements which allow natural light to penetrate the interior spaces.
-The roof is partially covered with a geometric, grid-like structure, made from metal and glass which is supported with Insulation and waterproofing layers to manage thermal performance and prevent water ingress.
-The finishes of the interior spaces range from smooth and polished to rough and textured, providing a contrast that enhances the visual interest of the design.
-The irregular, organic shapes are poured-in-place concrete using custom molds allowing for these unique, non-linear forms.
-Natural light is maximized through large windows and the glass roof structure. Artificial lighting is strategically placed to enhance the building's aesthetic and functionality, with a mix of recessed lighting, spotlights, and ambient light sources
