Project idea

Starting from the perspective of "localization" and integrating the spiritual core of thefilm "Schindler's List," we have respected and preserved the original building'smaterials and structural characteristics. The exterior has been meticulously restored toinherit and highlight Schindler's spiritual legacy. In the newly added parts, we haveused modernist design techniques and modern materials to harmoniously integrate oldand new elements. In terms of exhibition design, we have utilized modern technologicalpresentation methods, such as multimedia interaction, to enhance the immersion andinteractivity of the exhibition, We are committed to creating a museum thatcommemorates survivors and protects Schindler's Ark heritage.

Project description

Based on the original plan and structure of thebuilding,we respect and preserve the relativelyindependent structure, At the junctions of differentstructures, three new double-height spaces areintended to be added, dividing the building into fourdistinct volumes,These serveas buffers and transitionsin the narrative flow,In terms of spatial scale, wedesign different spatial seguences based on theemotional changes of the cinematic narrative.Eachspatial sequence gives visitors a specific emotionalexperience, and each spatial node is directly related tothe main narrative line of the building. The first exhibition hall is mainly designed based on the narrative of the film,The main content of the hall revolvesaround the suffering of the dewish people and Schindler's List. The first and second floors adopt the design technique ofnesting large and small spaces, forming a non-hierarchical spatial volume. The relatively closed space serves as the mainexhibition hall, where five parts of theexhibition are arranged in a linear narrative order. At the same time, five smallvertical volumes are inserted into the space as special exhibits to recreate historical scenes,The first floor utilizes aninclined ground with a gradient of 3% ,enhancing the heavy psychological feeling of the visitors by inducing subconsciousdiscomfort. The third floor is a circular corridor where visitors can look back on history. Based on the film's narrative.two diferent flow lines are set up, and by interweaving the flow lines, the perspective switch between "victims" and'Schindler" is achieved.

Technical information

The design retains the original structure of the building, which is predominantly steel, and we have retained as much of the original brick façade as possible, whilst using concrete in the new additions to the building to achieve a contrasting effect between the old and the new.
