RAILWAY STATION

RETAJ ALOBIDY
Benghazi University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, Benghazi
Libya

Project idea

The train station was designed to be a prominent symbol of the city and a point of attraction. Therefore, it was taken into consideration that the design should reflect the function of the building through the streamlined shape of the structure influenced by the movement of trains back and forth. The roof allows natural light to permeate, creating a contrast between shadow and light in the interior spaces.

Project description

The project will shine as a modern landmark designed to solve congestion problems due to the general lack of public transportation services in Libya. It will provide easy access to Benghazi University, given its close proximity to the university, ensuring easy connections between the city center, the suburbs, and neighboring cities.

Technical information

We have strived to meet the requirements of the current era, characterized by a shift towards technology, sustainability, and environmental consciousness. Most of the pre-existing plants on the site have been preserved, and the roof's fluid design has been utilized to collect rainwater for irrigation and building services. A dedicated space on the roof for future solar panels has also been allocated. Additionally, the preferred wind patterns have been studied to harmonize with the fluidity of the structure. As a result, the project will be relatively self-sufficient.
