Project idea

The main design concept associated with the revitalisation of the schindler's factory buildings is the creation of an exposition path. The path begins at the station 1km away, just as the story of the jews in brnenec began. Until people got to the site and to the ark itself, they experienced feelings of uncertainty about where they were being taken and whether they would be better off. These feelings are followed by the element of the steel pergola, which has the function of creating tension. The tension with the pergola is released as you enter the main ark building, with a piece of the pergola cutting through the mass of the building to enter the ark foyer. The exhibition in the ark building is divided into units according to themes. The architectural concept is complemented by new masses in various forms.the first form is the pergola, which serves mainly to create an emotion in front of the entrance to the building. In the building, masses of ramps and staircases are added, creating a circular exposition. In the main space of the hall, in addition to the ramps, cubes are also added, creating space for further exposition. In the overall architectural concept, two new masses are also added to the original ark building. The second mass forms a memorial - the place of the last farewell.

Project description

The main concept of the exhibitions, both in the exterior and interior, is to insert new shapes and materials into the space. On the first floor there is an entrance foyer. In order to create more space, part of the ceiling is open, thus creating a gallery space suitable for hanging exhibitions. The first part of the exhibition lead visitors up the two floors of the temporary exhibition. Then another exhibition circuit is created by ramps, which can be used to descend the exhibition in case the visitors have come to the temporary exhibition. If it is a full exhibition circuit, the exhibition continues from the temporary exhibition on the theme of how the ark was built, with visitors ascending a ramp up to the newly added mass which takes them to the roof of the ark. In the main hall, the exhibition is designed in the form of hanging sculptures, projection screens, hanging information banners and other various forms of exposition. On the back wall there is a small window through which it is possible to look into the space of the newly created memorial, which shows what little hope of survival they had. The exhibition proceeds up the ramps to the last part, namely to the ground floor with the survivors. The names of the survivors are on the columns, while in the space the volumes are completed with occupations as well as photos. The new building is designed as a mass within a mass. There is only one door leading out from the inside of the memorial, despite the windows. Through the windows, there are views into the park but also views into the wall, which shows the hopelessness of some people after the war. From the interior mass, the visitor reaches an intermediate space that has exits to the exterior in lateral positions just to reinforce the idea of leaving the ark back to life outside. The exit from the new building is to the after finishing the exhibition circuit it is up to the visitor which way to take.
