Revitalization concept for the tenement house at 12 Bałuki Street in Szczecin involves transforming part of the building into a complex inspired by the philosophy of mindfulness. The building is located in the city center and it is vital to revitilazie existing structures within this area. The idea of the project is to provide a complex space for people to work, eat and get some movement in. Its focus is to nurture people's sens of wellbeing.

Project description

This project draws upon Japanese culture and the concept of "jiriki," a Japanese Buddhist term for self-power, denoting the ability to achieve liberation or enlightenment through one's own efforts. The complex encompasses various thoughtfully designed spaces.

The lowest level features a wellness zone, complete with a yoga studio, changing rooms, restrooms, and facilities for massage and acupuncture. The ground floor houses a gastronomic venue that offers nutritious Japanese dishes and the country’s renowned teas. The preparation and composition of the dishes are meant to reflect the traditional approach to Japanese cuisine, characterized by a strong emphasis on mindful eating.

The first floor is dedicated to a spacious coworking area, meticulously designed to provide diverse workspaces within a serene environment conducive to focus and productivity. This area caters to various professional needs, offering open desks for collaborative efforts, private nooks for individual concentration, and adaptable meeting spaces for group discussions.

Technical information

The material palette of the project emphasizes natural resources such as wood, stone, micro-cement, ceramics, and organic fabrics. These materials create a subtle and harmonious color scheme, accentuated by recurring terracotta hues. The design incorporates elements of Japanese aesthetics; the division of wall coverings aligns with the dimensions of tatami mats, while rhythmic architectural elements articulate spatial organization.
