Project idea

The Mengwi Bus Terminal, a crucial transportation hub for Bali, currently fails to live up to its potential. Passengers are greeted by a bland and uninspired atmosphere, a stark contrast to the vibrant culture and beauty of the island itself. The lack of designated rest areas and uncomfortable seating options create discomfort for passengers during travel. This is compounded by the absence of cultural representation, which misses a valuable opportunity to connect passengers to the vibrant spirit and aesthetics of Bali.

Project description

Ikat, meaning “to tie” or “to bind” in Indonesian. By incorporating ikat, the terminal becomes more than just a transportation hub; it transforms into a space that reflects the island's unique identity. Passengers feel a sense of arrival in Bali, not just at a generic bus terminal. The use of vibrant ikat patterns and colors symbolizes designated areas that are visually distinct and inviting.

Technical information

The foundation is engineered to provide a stable base, ensuring the longevity and safety of the terminal. The use of reinforced concrete allows it to withstand heavy loads and potential seismic activity.
