Project idea

This academic design is focused on redevelopment of the existing Centro Gallego building and Jacinto Benavente square in the heart of Madrid.

Project description

The project consists of two types of spaces. The first one are the fluid ones between shared patios open for the public and the other are strict, ordered apartments and hotel rooms. The most characteristic and important point of the building - the corner has been exposed with several terraces from the ground to the very top to enhance the relation between the Jacinto Benavente square and the rest of the city.

Technical information

I opted to retain entire existing concrete structure and maintain the order of interior patios to minimize the impact on the site. I began by establishing two distinct structural orders: a rigid and organized grid along the facades, and fluid voids inside the building transformed into the patios.
