Project idea

Radiant Echoes emerges as a tribute to those lost in the 2023 Al Haouz earthquake. Designed as a memorial, it offers visitors a pathway through grief towards
hope and renewal.
Conceived in three distinct spaces—Frustration, Despair, and Deliverance—the memorial captures the spectrum of human emotion in the aftermath of
tragedy. Visitors embark on a journey, beginning with the somber reflection of Frustration.
From here, they are presented with a choice: to delve deeper into the fractured light of Despair or to embrace the warmth of Deliverance. Each path offers a
unique experience, guiding visitors through the complexities of loss and resilience.
As a poignant gesture of remembrance, we have engraved the names of the deceased into the walls of the memorial, ensuring that their memory is forever
etched into the fabric of Radiant Echoes.
Through this immersive experience, we invite visitors to navigate their own emotional trajectory, finding solace and strength as they journey from dark- ness to light.

Project description

The Radiant Echoes Memorial project aims to serve as a poignant tribute to the victims and survivors of the 2023 Al Haouz earthquake. Divided into three distinct spaces, namely Frustration, Despair, and Deliverance, the memorial offers visitors an immersive journey of emotional resonance and healing.

In the initial phase of Frustration, visitors confront the stark reality of loss amidst dimly lit spaces and cold concrete textures. Here, the engraved names of the deceased serve as a solemn reminder of the lives lost, fostering a sense of somber reflection and remembrance.

Transitioning into the Despair space, fractured light and textured surfaces symbolize the chaos and turmoil wrought by the earthquake. Yet amidst the despair, glimpses of resilience emerge, highlighting the strength and unity of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

Finally, in the Deliverance space, warm lighting and natural materials create an atmosphere of peace and optimism, guiding visitors towards healing and renewal. Here, the journey culminates in a sense of hope for the future, as visitors emerge from the shadows into the light of possibility.

Overall, the Radiant Echoes Memorial serves not only as a tribute to the past but also as a beacon of resilience and healing for the community, offering a space for reflection, remembrance, and renewal in the wake of tragedy.

Technical information

The technical design of the Radiant Echoes Memorial involves meticulous planning to ensure both functionality and emotional resonance. With the entire structure buried underground, careful consideration is given to ventilation, structural integrity, and accessibility.

The use of zenithal openings, strategically placed in the ceiling, allows natural light to filter into the underground spaces. These openings are carefully sized and positioned to maximize daylight penetration while minimizing glare and heat gain. Additionally, light wells and reflective surfaces are incorporated to enhance light distribution throughout the memorial, creating a harmonious balance between light and shadow.

To further enhance the emotional experience, the design incorporates elements such as engraved names of the deceased, textured surfaces, and sculptural elements. These features serve as focal points within the space, encouraging contemplation and reflection.

In terms of construction, special attention is paid to materials selection and waterproofing techniques to ensure the durability and longevity of the memorial. Sustainable design principles are also integrated, including energy-efficient lighting systems and rainwater harvesting for landscape irrigation.

Overall, the technical design of the Radiant Echoes Memorial seamlessly integrates architectural, engineering, and environmental considerations to create a space that not only honors the memory of the earthquake's victims but also provides a place of solace and healing for visitors.
