Project introduction
Following the studio brief, research was done to identify the
issues in Prague nowadays. The research on current
brownfields and housing estates showed that housing
estates have the potential to become the brownfields of
tomorrow. This project addresses this issue in advance. The
concept of this project applies to all housing estates. As a
case study, Bohnice was chosen to show the concept in
more detail.
As an approach to designing a new master plan, a
rectangular grid was taken as a guide. The grid is creating a
new concept of living in estates as it is creating urban
blocks with inner courtyards.
It aims to improve the social life in these neighborhoods by
creating more functional public spaces. The grid densifies
the area and covers nearly triple the built footprint.
The project offers a comprehensive approach applicable to
all housing estates, with Bohnice as a detailed case study.
Central to the proposed solution is a new master plan based
on a rectangular grid framework. This approach reimagines
the layout of housing estates, creating urban blocks with
inner courtyards to foster a sense of community and
improve social dynamics. By densifying the area and nearly
tripling the built footprint, the grid concept optimizes land
use and enhances the functionality of public spaces within
these neighborhoods. This project takes a proactive
approach to current urban challenges, offering a blueprint for
sustainable urban development of housing estates in
Prague.
The building design shows how it can follow the same
concept and become a logical part of the proposed master
plan. This project aims to show how housing estates can
transform to fit modern-day needs and standards.

Project description

The project focuses on redesigning the housing estate. Offers a new master plan for the district. The project further suggests a design for a building in the district.
The building is residential. To follow the logic of the master plan, it is divided into 4 volumes connected by bridges, which create passages on the ground level.

Technical information

The building is modular. The load-bearing structure is a steel frame.
The facades are wrapped in openable perforated steel panels.
