Compared to the general population, firefighters face a higher prevalence of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), ranging from 1.9% to 57%, and a significant portion, 66%, experience cancer-related deaths while on duty. Additionally, 18% of Line of Duty Deaths (LODD) among professional firefighters are attributed to heart disease. Despite these challenges, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine poses further difficulties in accessing resources.

To address these challenges, we propose implementing rooftop greening to cultivate vegetables and fruits, aiming for self-sufficiency. This initiative not only mitigates food scarcity but also enhances the green coverage of buildings, thereby improving the overall environment. Moreover, utilizing rooftop space for greening reduces the carbon footprint of firefighting vehicles, minimizing their adverse environmental impact.

The architectural design concept focuses on creating a self-sustaining living space, transforming the fire station into not only an emergency response hub but also a provider of essential resources. By growing vegetables and fruits on the rooftop, we ensure a fresh and healthy food supply regardless of external circumstances. Furthermore, this initiative enhances the building's sustainability, reducing reliance on external resources and strengthening the base's resilience.

Project description

Saunas are facilities used for skin bathing, known to expand pores, expel toxins and sebum, thus enhancing blood circulation and metabolism. Profuse sweating aids in eliminating various waste substances from the body, while the high-temperature environment allows for the absorption of beneficial health trace elements emitted from unique stones on the stove, offering preventive effects against diseases. Sauna baths have been shown to elevate mood, induce natural relaxation, and potentially shorten recovery time.

Indoor plants are powerful allies in promoting holistic well-being, aiding in stress reduction, improved sleep quality, enhanced focus, and anxiety alleviation. Their presence creates environments conducive to relaxation and tranquility, fostering better sleep patterns and reducing stress levels. Furthermore, surrounded by greenery enhances concentration and attention span, leading to increased productivity and a sense of calmness. Integrating indoor plants into living and working spaces can significantly enhance mental and emotional health, fostering a sense of balance and harmony in daily life.

Technical information

The building structure primarily consists of reinforced concrete, known for its strength and durability, making it the preferred choice in the construction industry. Reinforced concrete structures exhibit excellent load-bearing capacity and seismic resistance, providing stable support and protection for buildings. Additionally, steel structures are predominantly utilized for the fire truck parking area, further ensuring the strength and safety of that specific zone. The steel structure design for the fire truck parking area is engineered to withstand the weight and pressure of heavy vehicles while facilitating easy access and rapid emergency response. Overall, this structural design considers both the functional requirements of the building and prioritizes safety and durability, providing a reliable foundation and protection for the fire station.
