Interconnect: knowledge hub in Kandy

Project idea

The concept of the project “Interconnect” was originated with the existing status and requirement of the context, where the large and underutilized land plot located in the entrance to the city center without any proper way finding and feeling of entry.

Project description

The design intervention was proceed not only to interconnect paths using a permeable building block but to providing spaces to interconnect people pass by and building programs in the surrounding area.

Technical information

The design is comprises with 4 main building units, 2 historical preserved police barrack buildings which has reused as gallery and commercial spaces, while another building block to lightly bridge the two barrack building as a live city gallery showing the contrast of present and past, while the other building block act as the knowledge hub or the digital library.
