Project idea

Located opposite BAB LKHMISS in Sale Morocco, which is a monumental gate situated to the southeast of the city walls, the studied site benefits from a strategic location near various facilities and significant accessibility. However, despite these advantages, there is inappropriate and random use of large taxis, untreated facades of surrounding buildings, and disorder and nuisances that prevent the public from enjoying it.

An abandoned site with dirty sidewalks, disorder, and dedicated green spaces abused by the daily activities of residents. My goal was to create a space that encourages the acquisition of more visitors while providing a sense of order, comfort, and security. Pleasing and tranquil diverse spaces where one can relax.

The first questions I asked myself were how to invite users to traverse the entire site given its considerable length and what materials I could use without feeling overwhelmed, considering that our site is surrounded by buildings.

Project description

This intentional design not only promotes a sense of exploration but also creates a dynamic and ever-changing experience for the visitors. The interplay of light and shadow through the bamboo structure further enhances the atmosphere, adding a touch of natural beauty to each space within the labyrinth.

The carefully curated ambiances in each distinct area cater to a range of preferences and moods, ensuring that every corner holds a surprise for those who venture through. Whether it's a tranquil garden oasis, a vibrant communal gathering spot, or a secluded reading nook, each space tells its own story and invites visitors to engage with their surroundings on a deeper level.

By encouraging individuals to traverse the labyrinth, my design fosters a connection between the built environment and the human experience. It transforms the act of moving through space into a journey of discovery, turning what could have been a simple passage into an immersive adventure. Ultimately, the goal is to evoke a sense of wonder, curiosity, and delight in those who explore the intricacies of the site.

Technical information

I have chosen a bamboo structure that stands at a height of 5 meters, designed in a grid-like pattern to instill a feeling of order. The communal spaces are strategically placed at the heart of this structure, and access to them is granted only through the navigation of lengthy passages. This deliberate arrangement results in the creation of a labyrinth, guiding visitors through various spaces with each journey, fostering curiosity, and igniting the desire to uncover the distinct elements within.

The intentional use of bamboo not only imparts a sense of lightness but also adds a natural and inviting aesthetic to the surroundings. The interconnected passages and the intricate layout serve as an invitation for exploration, making the visitor's journey through the space an engaging and immersive experience. Each twist and turn within the labyrinth offers a new perspective, encouraging visitors to engage with the environment, fostering a sense of discovery, and creating a dynamic narrative throughout the entire site.
