Project idea

In this project, I decided to design a high school on a 4.5-hectare plot with a 5-meter elevation difference. The first thing I did was strategically place the sports fields in the correct orientation, naturally dividing the land into two parts. Therefore, I dedicated the first part to sports areas and the second to built spaces.

Project description

The main entrance is located on Avenue Assalam, northwest of the plot. Consequently, I oriented the main building vertically near this entrance. To manage the level difference, my administrative block starts at a level of 5 meters and then divides into three parts, each descending by 1 meter until reaching a level of 3 meters, all with a ceiling height of 5 meters.

As for the second horizontal volume, it is situated at a level of 5 meters and can be accessed by crossing a checkerboard-patterned garden that gradually descends by 0.50 meters from a level of 5 meters to a level of 3 meters. This level difference continues until reaching the restaurant, which is located at a level of 2 meters.

I attempted to maximize the layout of spaces according to their functions: a cafeteria-style restaurant with a secondary entrance from Tree Street, southeast of the plot; a block of changing rooms near the sports fields; the residence of the director and the general supervisor. Since the high school is sports-oriented, I dedicated an entire building to additional activities, namely fencing and archery, with their respective changing rooms and an outdoor archery range.

Regarding outdoor facilities, I first widened Assalam Avenue and all the sidewalks for the convenience of the public. Additionally, parking lots and waste disposal areas were arranged near Tree Street.

Technical information

I chose to use simple yet effective materials in the construction of my built spaces. Concrete was one of my main allies, providing strength and durability to the overall structure of the establishment. I ensured the strategic integration of this material, especially for the administrative block, starting at a height of 5 meters and dividing the structure into distinct parts, each gradually descending to a level of 3 meters. This approach allowed for optimal use of concrete while effectively managing the 5-meter elevation difference on the site.

As for the sports facility, I demonstrated creativity by incorporating wood into the design. Wood was deliberately chosen to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, particularly in areas dedicated to specific activities such as archery. Zones designated for these activities were designed with wooden finishes, not only offering pleasing aesthetics but also fostering an environment conducive to concentration and the practice of these disciplines.

The use of wood in the sports building also added a natural dimension to the surroundings, promoting a seamless connection between sports activities and the outdoor environment. This creates an immersive experience for participants, enhancing the appeal of the high school as a dynamic and welcoming educational space. By combining the efficiency of concrete with the warmth of wood, I aimed to strike a balance between functionality, aesthetics, and the user experience in the design of my project.
