Urban Design and Landscape

NEW URBAN CENTRE

Bouchra RAH
Université international de rabat UIR
Morocco

Project idea

The site represents a unique opportunity to create a dynamic urban center in the heart of Rabat, strategically located on main arteries conducive to functional diversity, including residential, commercial, cultural, and recreational spaces. Emphasizing sustainability, the quality of public spaces, accessibility via public transportation, and citizen participation, this project aims to revitalize the area and become a model of innovative urban planning, enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors.

Project description

Regarding the topography, I used multiple rectangular platforms to minimize the perception of different levels while traversing the terrain. This design allows pedestrial circulation without the need for stairs, creating a seamless and imperceptible experience. This approach provides an intriguing variation, evoking a theme in the design.
The layout plan integrates streets to ensure smooth connectivity between all spaces, converging towards a central focal point. Within this central zone, all primary facilities will be clustered, facilitating access from surrounding residential areas. This approach aims to enhance the site’s appeal by creating a well-connected space equipped with all essential amenities, providing an ideal environment for residents and visitors and leveraging the unique potential of the location. This will contribute to making this place an attractive living area that meets the community’s needs, reinforcing its significance in the region.

Technical information

In the design refinement phase, I further enhance the architectural elements by strategically incorporating balconies with integrated planter boxes. This not only introduces a functional aspect to the structure but also serves as a seamless integration of nature into the building's façade. The planter boxes in the different facades offer an opportunity for residents to cultivate greenery, creating a harmonious coexistence between the built environment and nature.

Moreover, the deliberate use of a variety of vegetation and natural materials, such as wood, adds a technical dimension to the project. The selection of wood as a material is not only aesthetically pleasing but also contributes to sustainable design practices. Wood, known for its durability and eco-friendly properties, ensures a balance between structural integrity and environmental consciousness.

The incorporation of balconies with planter boxes and the strategic use of vegetation and natural materials aim to create a biophilic design, promoting a healthier and more pleasant living environment. This approach not only aligns with modern architectural trends but also emphasizes a commitment to sustainability and the well-being of the occupants.
