Project idea

Memory, time, homeland, and numerous people and things are interrelated. I want to present the dense correlation in the real world through this expression. Not only do I seek feelings from the atmosphere of the Jiangnan water town, but during the design process, I have also been constantly exploring my memories and the intuitive feelings brought by various experiences in the past.

Project description

The goal of the project is to design a library for my high school alma mater - Ningbo No. 2 Middle School. The school is located in the Tianyi Pavilion Moon Lake Scenic Area. Moon Lake is located in the central urban area of Ningbo, the same age as Ningbo, it was excavated during the reign of Tang Zhenguan. For over a thousand years, countless literati and scholars have come to Moon Lake to give lectures and establish academies. Moon Lake not only brings the water of life to the ancient city, but also gradually transforms into a cultural gathering place for the ancient city, with evergreen old trees. Until today, many former residences of literati are still preserved. It can be said that one part of the history of Ningbo is located in Moon Lake. In September,2022, I once again walked through the ancient bridges of Moon Lake, imbued with memories of the rainy season, and now I am dripping into the lake water. The words and lines of sight in time, yours, mine, or his, her,are gone, reappeared. this land is the most poetic and enjoyable painting of life in eastern Zhejiang Province and Jiangnan. So, how should the story of Moon Lake be continued?

(The photos in the projects are partly sourced from online public sources, and partly is my self photography by my returning to the high school history museum.)

You can see the appearance of Ningbo Moon Lake in the last two photos of my project. Ningbo No.2 Middle School also appeared.

Technical information

The bottom of the building is a frame structure, supporting an inverted arch. The red house is buried deep under the riverbed and is suspended using the bending resistance of steel bars. A steel truss structure used to support the entire translucent shell. You could learn about my technical ideas in my last few pictures in details.
