Concept
The adjacent area of Sochi is a popular touristic and cultural spot on the territory of Russia due to outstanding marine landscapes near the Black Sea and the Olympic park built for 2014 Winter Olympics. The main concept of a project was the unity of a sea motive with the sport facilities stylistic, that includes circular rhythms and visually dynamical elements. The geometry of sun reflexion on a water surface was chosen as the key reference, thereby triangular details in windows and exterior spaces were made outside. In addition, the spiral shape of the object was also modeled this way by the influence of wave motion silhouette.
The building is designed in a shape of a vast circle with a tiny circlular part inside. The roof with the skylights goes spirally from the ground connecting both segments. The front wall is decorated with triangular stained glass windows and tiles mixed together. The space inside is devided according to the radius with the lecture hall in the center, doric columns repeat the trajectory of the inner room forming various resting zones and exhibition areas. A winding staircase is a major interior element located by the eastern wall of the pavilion. The second floor is quite tiny comparing to the first one according to curved surface of the roof.
The pavilion is built mostly with white concrete, stainless steel and glass, these materials were used to visually multiply the quantity of light inside, emphasize the specific shape of construction and correspond the surroundings, like Fisht stadium.
