The idea to this project has been drawn out from a research entitled "Effects of refugee camps spatial planning on children development" which the intended goal is to integrate refugee camps with hosting communities through "UJAMAA Policy" a Swahili phrase meaning socialism (an organization of people inequality to serve equality for all people) for mutual development to the communities strictly the children who need resilience from what they have experience before being admitted to the refugee camps. Inspite of the theme, the project intended to bring optimal development through establishment of various infrastructures which are planned and will be designed into phases.
Phase 1: Primary and Secondary school
Phase 2: Security facilities, recreational facilities and assembly grounds
Phase 3: Market, Interfaith facility and health center
Phase 4: UNHCR office, Country's department of refugees office and a police station
The project began with the design of Phase one so as to solve the challenges of non vertical progression of education in the refugee camps, and give ease of quality education through intermingling with the hosting community's children's.
This project aims to provide resilience to children with good quality of education and infrastructures through the integration policy.
The projects aim is to adopt prefab-technology which will give good quality to structures and longer terms of use, but also the concrete material will be sustainable enough as the use of photocatalytic concrete will be used and will facilitate sustainability, reduce air pollution, reduce growth of algae under the influence of sunlight.
