CAMPUS DESIGN TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT USING AN ECOLOGICAL ARCHITECTURE APPROACH IN PODOMORO TENJO CITY

Project description

The principles of ecological architectural design have a significant influence on the ecology of a place and are closely related to climate, environment, humans, and context. The application of ecological design principles plays an important role in achieving environmentally friendly buildings so they can give positive contributions to surrounding environment and reduce the negative impacts of carbon emissions during construction and building operation. Ecological design can also enhance the quality of learning environment for students by creating a comfortable and healthy building for users. However, implementation of ecological principles on campuses is lacking in Indonesia. This research identifies the application of ecological architectural principles in campus design. The design forms an interactive relationship between users and the environment that is integrated with nature, such as through the inclusion of outdoor classrooms and co-working spaces, as well as garden areas for learning activities, socializing, and ecological needs. Additionally, an amphitheater located in the center of the building serves as a link between spaces and a central hub for activities and social interactions, while an open and nature-integrated cafeteria with vegetation is also included. Another design strategy is using a building envelope in the form of a double-skin system featuring motifs of the Tenjo tree branches, representing the city of Tenjo and improving ventilation and lighting, thereby creating cooler and more comfortable indoor spaces. Therefore, the findings of this research can serve as a recommendation for implementing ecological campus designs to support a conducive learning process.

Technical information

The building utilizes environmentally friendly materials, such as a green roof, reflective materials, energy-efficient components, and walls with vertical gardens.
