School Project: The Green Connection: Harmonizing Courtyards and Green Roofs for Outdoor Learning

Project idea

The main idea of the project is to create open spaces that serve as participatory spaces where children can engage in various outdoor activities.
These open spaces aim to provide effective education to children by allowing them to interact with each other and connect with the natural environment, as well as with external and internal spaces.
It is acknowledged that while some students may actively participate in extracurricular activities, others may prefer to participate visually.

Project description

The site is in Bhaktapur, Nepal. The project is divided into three spaces: Pubic spaces, Semi private and private spaces. There are three block inter connected with each other which includes academic block, administration and canteen, library. The project is of G+3 floor.
The school admits Kindergarten, preprimary ( Nursery- UKG) and primary level student from class 1 to 5. There are 18 classroom.
Every class have two section.
Courtyard is provided for playing and morning assembly. Playground is in east side.
Since, the site is 1.5 m down from road level. Ramp for vehicles and steps for children is provided. The project also include universal access including ramps and lift. Different colour is painted focusing on children psychology.

Technical information

The building walls are of brick.
The library have curtain walls.
The ground is semipermeable with herring bone brick in walkways and wet pour paving in playground.
The green roof is extensive.
