Scalable Housing : The Scalable Typical Unit at Vertical Housing for a Changing Society

Project idea

The Scalable Design is a system that redefines the vertical housing business model and the application of the expanding unit, repaired, and redistributed. This system is designed to replace the present practise of flexibility architecture by extending the usefulness of the scalable technique prior to the next extraction, hence reducing carbon emissions and waste. Scalable design may be used in the architecture industry to alter design and construction practises in order to enhance the quality of life in vertical homes. However, since the present scalable model was intended to address the environmental element of the design, a lack of explanation on the social environment part may have an impact on the application's efficacy on buildings. Building obsolescence happens when there is a breakdown in the relationship between the built environment and the human. As a result, energy and resources were used during rehabilitation or destruction.

The Concept
The study's overarching goal is to enhance the standard of living in high-rise apartment buildings by determining the most effective Scalable Design strategy for improve quality of living.

The goal of this research is to examine, from the point of view of the social environment, how scalability might be included into architectural design as a means of enhancing the quality of life for people. The aim is to discover and develop ideas that will lead to the concept of scalable design in architecture that can be put into practise, and this will be the end result.

The primary objective of this design thesis is to improve the quality of life for residents of high-rise apartment complexes by identifying the most efficient Scalable Design method for a fast modernising society. Building larger flats in high-rise developments with the intention of enhancing the quality of life is therefore the goal. In order to encourage first-time homebuyers to consider vertical housing construction, we must increase its value. The goal is to include a modular wall system into the building's interior design that is adaptable to future construction and refurbishment needs.

Project description

The way the environment was put together there suggests that it was done with care to create density. Malaysia's housing and population are becoming a problem that the government isn't ready for and hasn't dealt with well enough until now. Johor Bharu needs help right away because there aren't enough affordable places to live there. Architect as a professional solution to Malaysia's housing problem in line with the country's population and location? The east side of Johor Bharu has been chosen by the government for gentrification and urbanization so that more single-family homes can be built there.

Technical information

Researchers have found a link between how happy people are with their homes and their overall quality of life (Baiden et al., 2011). Parker and Mathews (2001) say that a good way to measure customer satisfaction is to compare what the customer got to what they expected. Scholars have come up with many different ways to describe what it means to be happy at home. Francescato et al. (1979) say that a person's level of housing satisfaction is linked to how they feel about their home. They could have a positive or negative view of where they live. In the early 1960s, huge housing developments were built with the goal of making people happy. The opinions of the future occupants concerning the building's physical features were taken into account throughout the design process (Mohit and Azim, 2012).

Flexible and Adaptable Design
In four sizes –XS, S, M and L– these modular building blocks meet diverse functional needs. Thus, depending on the amount of space that each project demands, the design can play with the following formats. Wall will integrated with furniture function to maximum the internal space. The purpose of the space was also to make the living area the hub of activities, with the kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom serving as an afterthought. This concept freedom user to configuration layout base on their income.


This paradigm allows spatial flexibility by allowing several kinds of programmes to be implemented inside the layout. Additionally, it is able to adapt to changes by modifying its capacity or switching the tasks it performs in an alternating manner. The design of these structures, which is based on an open-source philosophy, is able to develop over time and adapt to the ever-changing requirements. The Redefine facade system is designed to be both modular and lightweight in order to lower its overall carbon footprint and boost its mobility. The facade will function as connecting space, which will make it possible for the average unit to grow. On the other hand, the structure of these structures may develop through time and adapt to the ever-evolving requirements.
