Project “Babylon” is a local response to today's residential architecture in
Novi Sad, Serbia. Created as an experiment in the overlapping relationship of the program in accordance with its environment. With its appearance, it
is obviously reminiscent of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, but with its
form it jumps out of the local context and makes a spatial break in the existing series of buildings, opening the ground floor to the public. The main question was how to coordinate Babylon's accompanying program so that it does not disturb housing? By carefully overlapping programs, new,
liminal spaces were created in favor of housing, which would serve as a
place of social conflict. The right to contact with nature took part in defining
the form, that is, each apartment required at least one terrace. In
addition to the public ground floor, parts of Babylon are also open to the
public on higher floors, thus creating new social spaces of today...
This structure consists of six different overlapping programs, housing as main one, gaming company, kindergarden, restaurant, market, showroom and open rooftop for public as supporting program...
The construction of the building is made out of concrete, as well as raillings for soil.
