Project idea

The purpose of the concept project is to find a new function for the empty quarries in the Chinese province of Shandong. The main idea of the project is to create a new public space around the abandoned quarry.It need to create a center of attraction tourists to the province, which has preserved its cultural heritage to this day, has been identified. In my project, I leand of the relief of this area, creating a museum around the quarry of three complexes connected by paths. The compositional completion of the complex is a quarry, over the abyss of which a musical installation was designed. It is a suspended cylinder with holes. Passing through these cylinders, the wind creates a musical sound. it's a good place for meditation too. An observation deck has been designed above the quarry with a view of the mountain landscape cut by the river.

Project description

The buildings designed on the site are an exhibition space with a permanent exhibition about the province's culture and mining. The path network smoothly connects the blocks of the building. The shape of the objects is determined by the terrain and repeats the shape of the mountain landscape. It organically fits into the area.

Technical information

The terms of reference were to develop creative proposals that go beyond standard development models, offering local authorities new approaches to such a project. Particular emphasis is placed on the issue of closed mines, which are unique to the area, but at the same time pose a serious danger. How can environmental and spatial damage be reduced and converted into a new function for attracting tourists.
