Calvary has been synonymous with a typical Filipino trying
to reach their destination. The chaotic urbanscape has
been struggling to organize itself with unpredictable
plying of trikes, jeepneys, buses, private vehicles, and the
like. Solutions have been placed over problems yet it
lacks vision as it only sees what is happening at the
moment. Through a visionary lens, the project aims to
design with an avant-garde approach to building a
terminal the Filipino deserves.
The project aims to cater to transportation and consumer demands through leisure, retail, and transport service. It utilize innovation for the
ease and efficiency of transportation. Ultimately aims to contribute in democratizing public spaces for the people. It embodies the amorphous
and unpredictable nature of Manila with green and sustainable public transport spaces. The design of the terminal that reflects an avant-garde
identity for the global stage whilst grounded in the vernacular identity. These are possible through designing with visionary and progressive technology.
The design strategies for the transport terminal encompass various aspects to ensure efficiency, convenience, and sustainability. Firstly, ticketing and systems focus on streamlining the process through advanced technologies and automated systems. Contactless transactions further enhance ease of use and safety by eliminating physical contact during payment. The transport timetable ensures accurate scheduling and reliable information for travelers. People-centric mobility emphasizes creating a terminal that caters to the needs of all individuals, including accessible features for persons with disabilities (PWD considerations). In line with sustainability, the terminal incorporates environmentally friendly elements such as locally sourced engineered bamboo for construction and a sun-adapting mechanical skin that optimizes energy consumption. Natural air conditioning utilizes natural ventilation and cooling mechanisms, reducing reliance on artificial systems. The terminal also promotes community farming with dedicated facilities, encouraging urban agriculture and fostering a sense of community. Moreover, it provides a bike parking facility to support eco-friendly commuting options and walkability to encourage pedestrians. Additionally, the terminal incorporates an electric PUV charging facility to promote the use of electric vehicles. A virtual reality space offers an immersive experience for visitors, while smart security surveillance scanning enhances safety and security measures. On-the-go health check-ups provide convenient access to medical services for travelers. Lastly, a community farm facility status viewer keeps visitors informed about the progress and activities within the community farming facility. Overall, these design strategies create a holistic and innovative transport terminal that prioritizes efficiency, sustainability, community engagement, and the well-being of its users.
