DHAKA,A MEGACITY WITHA POPULATION OF 20MILLION,FACES NUMEROUS TRANSPORTATION CHALLENGES.THE EXISTING INTER-DISTRICT BUS TERMINALS AT GABTOLI,MOHAKHALI,AND SAIDABAD STRUGGLE WITHCONNECTIVITY,PASSENGER FACILITIES,PARKINGCONDITIONS,ANDTRAFFIC CONGESTION.THE CITY'S POPULATION GROWTH AND INFLUX OF VEHICLES FROM SURROUNDING AREAS EXACERBATE THESE ISSUES,LEADING TO SLOW TRAFFIC SPEEDS OF ONLY 7 KILOMETERS PER HOUR.TO ADDRESS THESE CONCERNS,A STRATEGIC TRANSPORT PLAN(STP) WAS FORMULATED IN 2005 AND REVISED AS THEREVISED STRATEGIC TRANSPORTPLAN(RSTP) IN 2015 BY THE DHAKA TRANSPORT COORDINATION AUTHORITY(DTCA).THE ON GOING BUS RAPID TRANSIT(BRT),MASS RAPID TRANSIT(MRT),AND EXPRESS WAY PROJECTS ARE OUTCOMES OF THE RSTP.ADDITIONALLY,THE RSTP RECOMMENDS THE CONSTRUCTION OF ADDITIONAL INTER-DISTRICT BUST ERMINALS ON THE CITY'S PERIPHERY.ONE SUCHIDE ALLOCATION FOR A TERMINAL IS A STRATEGIC PUBLIC HUB WITH ACCESS TO THE DHAKA-CHITTAGONG HIGHWAY,BAYZID LINK ROAD,RAILWAY CONNECTIONS,AND A CONTAINER TRACK.WITH THE AVAILABLE LAND,THE TRANSPORT COMMISSION CAN DEVELOP A WORLD-CLASSINTER-DISTRICT BUS TERMINAL AT THIS LOCATION.
