The project site is located in Anshan, China, a declining resource city once known for its giant state-owned steel companies. The people here are deeply influenced by the spirit of the collectivist period and are very nostalgic for the glory days of the past. I wanted to design a house that would serve as a monument to the city's history, a city monument filled with emotion. At the same time, I hope that the building will serve the citizens and inject vitality and energy into the development of the city.
The project is built on the site of a steel mill, a bathhouse with a collective spirit. It allows people to reminisce, reflect on the past, and meet with strangers and family and friends under the time and activities of collectivism.
I built the house on the remains of the original factory and incorporated some of the remnants into the building. The building is mainly an inward-looking space, with all the functional spaces surrounding its central area - where the remains of the factory are significant: the first blast furnace
