Project is situated by the ancient Trieste (Tržaška) road in Ljubljana. The High School Vič and Elementary school rank among the important buildings on this road. They are located next to the small sports center Vič, which offers inadequate sports use for residents of the locality, including elementary school pupils. The site also suffers from a lack of public space for locals. The goal of the new Sport Hub was to deal with these problems and create a full-fledged program for a local community that would combine sport activities with community life. Sport Hub will present a new typology as a public domain.
Seated within an urban environment, the new Sport Hub will be recognized as a distinguished complex of spaces where varied activities and events will be held. The building will become a new landmark within the urban context, as well as a public domain, gathering spaces, and activity lovers’ capital in the neighborhood.
The new Sport Hub will present a new typology as a public domain where strangers who share common interests are given good opportunities to meet and build their communities. Instead of trying to create an artificial nature captured in a box, the design brings the original forms and conditions found in nature as the major driving forces.
The Sport Hub provides a number of sports and public facilities in a way to invite the communities into the building with no clear separation between spaces for members only and those for all the public, which enables groups of visitors
with different reasons for coming to the building to have unexpected chances to meet others. The building is created by two volumes and tank in-between which are altogether connected by running path so the runners, pedestrian, visitors
can observe all sports activities in the buildings thought semi-transparent facade which is made from copilit. The public and the members are to embrace physical and visual connections with each other while being occupied with their own activities. Public facilities are located on the ground floor of the bigger volume and on the ground to the third floor of the second volume where is the sports bar, exhibition/lecture room, low-threshold treatment programs, rehabilitation, and the rooftop serves like a skate park with basketball filed, children‘s playground and field for pétanque.
