The idea of our project is to make a timeless public space containing both modern tendencies and features of old-town Croatian resorts. Our main purpose was to design an accessible costal walkway with points of attraction for everyone.
Master plan is designed according to landform peculiarities. Steep relief is left pristine where possible to emphasise the beauty of local nature. Despite significant height discontinuity all zones are still accessible due to ramps.
As for functional zoning, our project includes stores and cafes, a yacht club and pier, chill-out zones containing swings and hammocks above the water, playground. The dominant is an observation tower which allows to delight picturesque views, especially on sunsets. Inside the tower there is an amphitheater integrated into rocks existing. Sitting there resort guests may just chill in the shadow, watch movies shown in the evening or just take a coffee at the coffee point behind the screen. The central square has four circles: three of them are vocal fountains and one is a sundial.
All these locations are bounded by two routes: the costal walkway and the roof walkway. The second one was inspired by Croatian narrow streets faced with paving stone. Block buildings make “a chain” providing a permanent walkway on its roof. The masonry used is inspired by Croatian ornaments.
The materials used are often seen in Croatia: stone, wood and glass in buildings and paving stone on walkways. We also used brick in wall facing to sharp contrast of material redness with green flora around.
The roofs are exploited and faced with paving stone. The only red tile roof is over the boathouse.
Another important feature is arches. Inspired by local historical architecture and construction methods used the circular arches can be seen in windows, archways, walls.
For accessibility we provided marina with ramps made of metal same as stairs. Their construction make facades seam more lightweight.
