Project idea

This site is famous for its stone structures and it is hard not to
incorporate it in the intervention. The attached map maps the stone surfaces that stretch all the way to the coast, creating unique and absolutely unrepeatable environments that give it the character it has. The priority has always been nature, so the structures are created in carefully chosen areas, giving priority to more rocky areas and taking the terrain as the most important factor. The skill of building drywall is recognized as an intangible cultural asset of the Republic of Croatia and is under the protection of UNESCO. Drywall has multiple applications, the most common of which is parceling, especially in agriculture. Throughout history, it has been used as a system of separation, but also as a meeting place, which becomes the focus of this research. The oldest examples date back to 3500 years ago. Priority was given to agricultural land, while the remaining land was used as a plot for a house. This is what this research wants to keep as the main aspect and what will be the most important part of the structure, forming endless stone forms that will be used as a "new terrain" on which later not a tourist settlement will emerge, but a new home, for all who are looking for him. Will all roads lead to "Rome" or will this Rome of ours become a new center, that is, a new base of a community, which will become a meeting place and revive this sleepy part.

The ancient Greeks reduced the structure of nature to 4 basic elements: fire (warm and dry), earth (cold and dry), air (warm and moist), water (cold and moist). Three lines stand out clearly on this map: the mountain range, the highway and the sea line; of which the highway has the function of a kind of border that separates the two greatest natural resources and two elements, stone (earth) and water. Even if the element of air is not visible, it is undeniably present, it is precisely the key element in the formation of the two lines. From a philosophical point of view (and sociological in this case) the missing element in this location is fire; an element that would give heat, and bring this location back into balance. Dwelling on the Greeks, it is impossible not to relate Prometheus who stole the fire from Olympus and gave it to people so that they could become independent and raised them from the state of nature to the state of reason and consciousness. For that act, he was punished by Zeus, as that action was irreversible. In this case, the main problem of this research arises
her; will Prometheus again be most terribly punished for "stealing" the fire from Olympus in the desire to make people independent and thereby strengthen them physically and spiritually. Returning to the 21st century and to the premises of Starigrad, questions arise: who is it?
Prometheus, what is fire, and who is the terrible Zeus on whom the well-being of the local population depends?

The paradox is that, in this case, Prometheus and Zeus are the same person and that they have the task of stealing fire from themselves - for themselves. The idea of "theft" (fire) of the traditional local structure has the role of deceiving the spirit of the location, through the mutual commitment of the local population, both through physical work and through the exchange of knowledge and experiences. So the basis of everything already exists, and the product of this research should be its improved version. Because, as already said, these structures are unrepeatable and need to be used and improved for a given location. The main tasks of this work will be placing the "first ember" and sprinkling gunpowder so that the flame moves in a controlled manner. What will remain conjecture is how the fire will continue to spread and whether it will give this location the warmth it lacks or whether it will be a catastrophic fire. All this is influenced only by Prometheus / Zeus and whether he is ready to change and accept it. An important factor in this research will be time and the creation of time diagrams as a monitoring of the development of the structure whose idea is to be realized periodically, humanely and in harmony with nature. If we consider that the placement of the embers is exactly at our location, we can only rely on time as the constant of its development. Time will tell if the structure will develop to the center of Starigrad, or if the flame will go out when it encounters the first sea storm.

Project description

The project is based on the formation of dry-wall directions, which, looking at the entire location, give a clear and harmonious form. The main factor that is
the natural character of the location was considered and adopted, that is, the morphology of the terrain, the natural position of the stone, as well as the already existing dry wall forms, which (under the assumption) were formed for the purpose of dividing the terrain intended for agriculture. This is exactly what led to the formation of the entire matrix, and in the zone of the existing dry wall, a parcellation was made in which the villas are located. The form of the villa was developed organically, somewhat spontaneously, but without compromising comfort and a unique view. Characteristic
of the complete project are organic forms and reliance on sunlight, which gives the stone the warmth that the villa with all the accompanying.
transforms functions into a home.

Technical information

The villas are grouped so that they form a harmonious and organic whole that represents a model for the further development of the location. Each has its own swimming pool, arable land, gardens and terraces. They are characterized by leveled surfaces that can be reached by stairs. They are oriented so that every master and living room has a view of the sea, and at the same time they get maximum daylight. The lighting of the compact villa is also achieved through roof openings, while the roofs are planned as green and additional arable land.
