Re-unite the people. A platform to gather the people into a space to share the interest and though, while promoting the healthy lifestyle.

Project description

After being through varieties of towns in Scotland, Cumbernauld town is the most interesting town that attract my attention. Once upon of time, the town was on its highest peak where the first town to adapt the Utopia concept also being told as new town. However, the result were not met the expectation. There are now negative perception and reputation. As having a curiosity personality, I decided to explore more about the town.

Based on my observation, today, the residents in Cumbernauld have moved to the edge of the town. In the mean time, the town has created an anti-social barrier between the different residential zones.

Fortunately, this has not decelerate the growth of Cumbernauld town. In recent years, many well-known industries establish their headquarter in Cumbernauld. This given a new opportunity to reclaim the new town title through these big name industries.

To unite the people in Cumbernauld, gathering space and exhibition space has proposed. The key program which is the Cumbernauld’s culture has introduced to the project to enhance and strengthen the bond between communities.

Technical information

Master plan
As we can see in the Cumbernauld’s master plan, a significant rise of new residential developments in the town. However, there is limited gathering space to accommodate the new groups of people.

Structure
In order to assemble and dissemble the structure in a short period of time, interlocking connection method has introduce to the project where given the flexibility to change the space allow all sort of activities operate in the space.
