Campus Memory Centre of UAP

Project idea

Apart from academic activities, university is a place where a person becomes engaged in many social, cultural and political work and through these experiences, explores his/ her potential to the fullest degree. University life remains incomplete without such experiences. Hence, this project deals with designing a Teacher- Student Center for UAP (University of Asia Pacific) that becomes the social and cultural heart of the campus, housing the co-curricular activities of the university students. The Teacher-Student Centre seeks to foster campus community life to supplement the formal academic program of the university.
Through this project, I continue to explore material, structural, experiential, functional and spatial complexities of public functions. That will help to design a building with public scale that creates a symbiotic relationship with its surrounding natural and built environment.

Project description

In "University of Asia Pacific" not only student, but also faculty have many communities, clubs, activity, extracurricular activities. In this circumstance, huge number and variety of community need a proper distribution. Here the theory of subculture (from “Pattern Language” book) become a solution to make a proper community distribution. By following subculture, some “individual activity culture” make a “larger community activity sub culture” and some “larger community activity sub culture” create a more “larger community activity subculture”. So, every small community is like a dot, some dot connects to each other and create a larger dot, than these dots make a larger dot. In a word every community in the campus in connected each other by following subculture. This subculture communities would be making the the campus life a memorable to the users.

Technical information

The main materials of the building is brick and concrete because of local context. For heavy load distribution, waffle slab is used in the construction. Huge column for supporting auditorium space, in many side building envelope system is o louvre and mullion glass.
