Project idea

It was analyzed that the floors both in the courtyard and inside the buildings were not communicating with each other. Masses in the middle of the courtyard, irregular elevation differences and undefined areas were discove red. The aim was to create a system that could create a new sense of space that could create transparency and permeability. It should be perceived that the word “parasite” indicates a conceptual difference in the approach to the use of space, not the consumption of space. This focuses on the potentials of space design and the relationship between architectural design and urban design. In this sense, it is possible to say that the concept of parasitic architecture is included in urban design as a criticism of the lack of public space. It aims to establish a link between architecture and the city and invites us to rethink the capacity of design. In this sense, it can be said that parasitic architecture creates a new meaning between the city and architectural space. This concept, which occupies the existing structures and criticizes the cities, can also be interpreted as a rebellion in architecture.

Project description

All situations such as plate movements, organic developments, fragmentation, which take place in the formation of a valley, are also present in the parasite, which is positioned in the middle of the courtyard and gives new potentials to the land. The folds taking reference from nature interfered with the areas located at different levels, both inside the courtyard and on the facades of the existing conventional buildings. The parasite, which nourishes the existing structure and rebuilds the form, is concerned about maintaining its own life and infiltrating the courtyard by maintaining a one-sided utilitarian relationship with the host building, begins to affect the facades according to their functions. There is a water element at +11.00 level in the middle of the courtyard. Water creates a relationship with the city throughout the plot, providing continuous lightness, transparency and visual permeability. It also presents different visions and perspectives of the landscape. Appearances are lost when trying to distinguish between indoor and outdoor. Suggests not just a single focal point, but a new perceptual universe

Technical information

With the fragmentation of the organic form that creates the parasitic surfaces into the floors, and the overlapping of the fragmented floors in different shapes and sizes, flexible spaces with no clear and sharp boundaries and height values at different levels were created. Existing studios and classrooms have been developed in the spaces created by interference with the existing structures, and flexible spaces that do not have clear and sharp boundaries, where people can communicate better, and which have the potential to create a different perception of space have been added to the conventional structure. In the courtyard section, spaces that are spaced at different levels with the reference of the movements on the facades, opening slits and descending to the lower level are created. There are exhibition spaces and social interaction areas in the slits. In the levels below the courtyard, interaction areas have been created for the masses of different ages. With the system, which is suitable for creating flexible spaces, the miscommunication in the courtyard and between the floors is eliminated.
