The task at hand was to create a High Profile Residential unit. The site was in the Matsheumhlope suburb of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The project's main goals were to consider and repeat the hilly site terrain. Another important goal of the project was to identify and design the public, and private zones.
The scope of the project was the positioning of zones, sun orientation and the wind direction which intended to use in ventilation of the site as a whole. The form was influenced by the terrain of the site and the movement of the prevailing winds.
So the designs has work space positioned in the north section of the site. This zone is public. the road way from the north east corner VEHICLE ENTRANCE is play part in separating the public zone and the private zone.
The entrance into the private zone being the eating space the common ideal in the ancient homesteads in the Zimbabwe.
The structural system of the structure:
the foundation was proposed to be a strip foundation as it has the ability to to transfer the forces by loads safely to the ground considering the compacted gravel soils on the site.
The walls are erected using the Multi-Special bricks (225 x 105 x 75mm) in Zimbabwe produced by the Macdonald Bricks. I chose this type as it has high compression strength which makes it ideal for my design.
The trusses to be made of timber. The roofing sheets are IBR ROOFING SHEETS.
