The main idea is to create a new city center for the 21st century. The port of Beirut is located in close proximity to the Suez Canal. This is an opportunity to build a new reloading hub at the Port for international container companies. Attracting new investors will only be possible if the port space becomes an attractive investment space. When analyzing global examples of commercial cooperation with the city, it is worth paying attention to Technology parks. Due to its numerous socio-economic problems, Beirut is currently unable to build an infrastructure on its own that would allow investors with capital to be encouraged to set up large research centers. Therefore, the main idea of the project is to design the space of a specialized container port. The current port is not very competitive due to the small area of service and the lack of sufficient storage facilities. Bearing in mind the outbreak of 2020 and the current trends of moving the port border as far as possible from large urban areas due to pollution and danger, I decided to change the location of the seaport beyond the Beirut River. The relocation of the port will increase the security of the Beirut Downtown and will significantly free up investment spaces in the city. Due to the large number of inhabitants and the high level of unemployment, a space for obtaining qualifications (university district) has been proposed, thanks to which Lebanese will be able to improve their qualifications on the labor market in the future. In turn, technology parks will allow foreign capital to be invited to commercial cooperation between the city and the port.
The project involves the design of the main new public spaces: green areas (central park, green line, new promanade), integration of transport space in close proximity. Designing multi-functional districts with specific specializations: office district, aid center, university district, startup space, a new waste incineration plant or a technology park.
The project was designed on an urban scale and assumes the use of new ecological technologies and zero emission.
