The Melting Po(r)t

Project idea

Referring to its name, The Melting Po(r)t, this post is created in order to provide a port that acts as a productive economy place and a melting pot or a public place.

This idea was inspired by the issues that occurs in the city due to the explosions, which includes the primary needs crisis that finally inflicted in rising inequalities in the city.

The port here provides places that are inclusive and productive, to help the citizen to bounce back and become productive again after their loss due to the explosions, and creating sustainable places that would improve the socio and economic life furthermore.

Project description

The scope of the solutions for this project are being summarized in a concept called "the soup of harmony"

we create an analogy that represents the solutions we pitched as a recipe to create a peaceful place that we symbolize a soup. Because soup relates with a warm and peaceful situations at home.

The solutions we provided in brief are as follows.

Ingredients : restoring the essential infrastructure to help the citizen gain back their primary needs. This would help the citizen and the government to together cooperating they need it in order to survive.

Seasonings : Creating more public places that would help the citizen to interact or crossing over while reaching to some places. This would help the citizen to initiate the communication and help them to get to know each other in order to break the bad stigma.

Garnish : Creating infrastructures that acted as the element of investment, that would appeals the investor or enhance their tourism to help them gain back their power in economy.

Last, the pout which we create a long traditional market called souk. This market is a main attraction in this port that connect all the recipes above.

The souk acted as a inclusive economy place in which all the citizen could take a role in the economic activity there and help them becoming more productive and coherently interacting with each other. Also the traditional market that has a strong cultural representation would likely to attract the foreigner thus creating them as a place to also improve the tourism there too.

Technical information

The main highlight in this project are the children park, the cultural center, the waterfront recreation, and the souk.

These are chosen based on the main concept we take, in which we are expecting to create a port that acted as a melting pot.

The cultural center and the waterfront are created close to the explosions situ, due to this condition, we build this zona using concrete and the debris that can be reused.

On the other hand, the children park and the souk are mostly build using the timber construction, to make them easy to mobilized and making them modular.
