Project idea

Every region, regardless of its scale, has a certain identity of place. These are those geographical, cultural, historical, psychological, and distinctive features that are unique to the territory, regardless of its scale. And each person associated with that place reacts to them in a special way spiritually and emotionally. Museum of feelings in this context becomes a special platform for the manifestation and transformation of these feelings in the space.

Project description

The contest proposal articulates the identity of India's large social group, the Hindus. A special role in defining the identity of Indian culture is played by color and form, which have become a defining method of design. Through the psychological identity is made a proposal architectural identity of a modified typology, namely the museum temple of Hinduism "Nirvana".

Technical information

The museum consists of two components. The first is a classic museum part with the usual museum content, where temporary and permanent exhibitions of the historical heritage of Indian culture will be held. The second, the main part, is the space in which the very senses of the visitors become the subject of the exposition. It is a vertical structure in shape and color reminiscent of classical Indian temples, pierced by several atriums around a stair-elevator core with evenly spaced colorful cells 3 by 3 meters in size on the perimeter of each floor. Inside these cells the main action takes place - visitors can be alone with themselves, with their religion, indulging in feelings and sensations. The color scheme of each cell carries a certain message that has a special meaning in Indian culture, which predetermines the practices that will be performed in this space. For example, red is the color of love, and in a red cell a person will perform those practices which he or she believes to be an expression of that feeling. It can be meditation, prayer or hobbies, any process that evokes exactly the feelings of love. The cells have 6 different colors to cover the entire spectrum of human feelings: red, green, purple, yellow, blue and orange.
Thus, the museum space was reinterpreted in a new way in terms of typology. Volumetric and spatial solution of the building allows not only to hold exhibitions in it, but also to create and exhibit the main subject of any art right inside the architecture - feelings. This was the result of the approach to architectural design from the point of view of the principles of forming an identity of place.
